Preventing fires on the latest generation of aircraft

The AircraftFire project is helping aircraft manufacturers and regulators better plan for and prevent fires with new aircraft designs that use composite materials. The data and integrated tool for predicting the consequences of an on-board fire are already available to manufacturers and regulators.

As the number of European passengers travelling by air continues to increase, the issue of aircraft safety becomes more and more important. One area of safety that is critical to improving passenger safety is aircraft fire. Due to the large amount of highly flammable fuel carried by an aircraft, combined with limited options for escape, an on-board fire is a severe threat to the lives of passengers and crew.
